"There must be congruity between faith and form. The new faith must make its own new forms. This requirement rests on every age." Interpreter's Bible
Our present facility was built in another age. It is not congruent with the membership's concept of church today and it does not comply with the Master's instruction that new wine can't be put in old bottles.
Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist urgently requires a new church facility that expresses our faith enabling us to fulfill our mission of bringing hope, comfort, compassion, and peace to the individual and to the community.
For over ninety years, Fifth Church of Christ, Scientist has been an active presence in the San Francisco Tenderloin. The church strives to be an institution which affords proof of its utility by contributing to the spiritual and physical well-being of the community.
"Our community urgently needs attractive, well-designed housing that working families can afford. Therefore, our church is sponsoring the building of rental housing on our property. We feel this project will help the Tenderloin realize its potential of being a safe, beautiful, and stable neighborhood - a neighborhood where people enjoy living, working and raising families."

Our New Facility
Fifth Church will continue to carry forward its healing mission begun over 90 years ago. The new church facility will incorporate a sanctuary to seat 250 worshippers for Sunday services and Wednesday evening meetings, and a Sunday school for children and young people up to the age of 20. It will also include a Christian Science Reading Room which will provide a quiet place for study and prayer and where one may learn of the teachings of Christian Science and its healing mission. Books and Christian Science literature will be available for study or purchase as well as The Christian Science Monitor, the international daily newspaper. The church also sponsors Christian Science lectures. We are working with a team of architects and developers to bring this vision to fruition.
